Tiger’s was the first portrait I’d ever attempted, very closely followed by Jewel (her sister).

I think I like this piece the best out of the one’s I’ve done so far. I thought the three faces needed something to pull them in together, so I added a flower in the background. I don’t have an original for the flower – I just picked an image of a flower from a magazine that was handy. This piece was somewhat remarkable in that the Christmas photos from Katie all happened to be a perfect pose for the picture.

(and if you’re wondering … yes, that is me sitting next to her. I believe (due to the approximate age of my little brother Jonathan, who you see there in front of me) that this picture was taken Christmas of 1990.

You will notice on this one that I drew my Mom without glasses. This is because I thought the portrait would come out better that way. It was very difficult to do on my part. Therefore I don’t recommend doing this on other portraits. Also, since this picture was actually rather an old one, it was an actual photo (remember those days?!) which had to be scanned into the computer to send to me. Due to that, and the magnifying of Mom’s face in order to see appropriate detail … the image that I actually worked off of, as you can see, was very fuzzy. Between all of these factors (fuzzy image, removing glasses, and the fact that my Mom had just passed away 3 months earlier) this was the hardest of all the pictures that I’ve drawn so far.
